How to Store Black Seed Oil Properly
You’ve invested in a bottle of high-quality black seed oil. To prevent valuable antioxidants from degrading, proper storage is essential. Black seed oil is a “living” product that reacts to its environment.
The Three Enemies of Quality
1. Light (UV radiation)
Light breaks down the chemical compounds of thymoquinone. Always store the bottle in a dark kitchen cabinet and preferably in dark packaging (amber or brown glass).
2. Oxygen (Oxidation)
As soon as you open the bottle, it comes into contact with air. This starts the oxidation process. Always close the cap tightly after use and avoid leaving the bottle open for extended periods.
3. Temperature
Extreme heat (for example, near a stove) accelerates rancidity. While black seed oil is best stored at room temperature to maintain its proper structure, keeping it in a cool place is also suitable.
Should It Be Stored in the Refrigerator?
It can be, but it’s not necessary. In the refrigerator, the oil may become slightly thicker or cloudy — this is normal. Let the bottle return to room temperature before use if you prefer a more liquid consistency.
